The Atlanta Rainbow Trout water polo team finished second at the UGA tournament this past weekend in Athens. 4/5/08-4/6/08
The weekend started with a game against Emory University. It took the Trout nearly the entire first quarter to finally get on the scoreboard. We were able to stretch our lead to 5 – 0 by halftime. We played a much better second half, winning the game 12 – 2.
Our second game was against the University of Tennessee. Once again, we started slowly, scoring our fist goal with less than a minute left in the first quarter. We came to life again in the second quarter, extending our lead to 6 – 1 by halftime. We pulled away in the second half to win the game 12 – 5.
Winning both preliminary games set up a semifinal match against North Carolina State University on Sunday morning. This time we came out on fire, scoring 3 goals in the first two minutes of the game. We stretched the lead by halftime to 5 – 1. NC State kept it close in the second half. The Trout won the game 7 – 5 to propel us into the Championship Game.
The Championship game was against Florida International University, the defending tournament champion. The first half was a well fought battle, with FIU taking a 6 – 3 halftime lead. They proved to be too much in the second half. FIU won the game 18 – 6 to win the UGA Tournament. The Trout finished second.
